When we talk about the perfect morning routine, a cup of freshly brewed matcha is always at the top of the list.
Matcha has a smooth, full-bodied, and complex flavor, and despite its distinctive taste, it offers a wide variety of ways to enjoy it. It's easy to enjoy both hot and cold, on its own, as a creamy matcha latte , and it's a delicious way to enhance waffles, smoothie bowls, or even hummus.
Today, we're excited to share four simple ways to enhance your matcha, both in terms of flavor and nutritional value. So, next time you're craving something different in your routine, you'll have some ideas on how to flavor your matcha using ingredients you probably already have in your pantry.
BOOST 1: TURMERIC + GINGER
Adding 1/4 teaspoon of ground turmeric and 1/4 teaspoon of ground ginger to your matcha not only brightens up the green color but also adds additional nutritional benefits to your drink! Both turmeric and ginger are classified as THERMOGENIC herbs, meaning they help generate heat in the body, making this ingredient ideal for cold winter days (although we LOVE making it cold in the summer too). Turmeric and ginger are widely known for their anti-inflammatory and immune-supporting properties, so this is a great way to give your morning matcha an extra health boost.
For a milder variation, grate fresh ginger and turmeric and add them to your matcha as a fresh infusion. You'll appreciate the freshness this touch will bring to your matcha routine, especially if you feel your immune system needs a little extra care.
If you prefer, you can balance the spiciness of this matcha variation by adding a splash of honey, coconut sugar, or another sweetener of your choice. If you don't add milk, you can substitute it with fresh lemon for a citrusy kick.
BOOST 2: CACAO POWDER
This last variation is perfect when you need an EXTRA caffeine boost in addition to your usual cup of matcha. By adding half a teaspoon of raw cacao to your matcha latte, you'll get a creamy, chocolatey variation that will help you start your day right... after all, it's chocolate and this version is definitely ENERGIZING.
Cacao powder is a superfood that will provide you with a good dose of antioxidants and detoxifying minerals. Since matcha is already naturally rich in antioxidants, you'll further enhance the anti-aging, anti-inflammatory, and anti-stress power of your drink.
Combining matcha and chocolate offers many benefits (provided you can tolerate the excess caffeine). Not to mention that the combination of chocolate and matcha has always been highly appreciated in pastries around the world, and there's a reason: just like peanut butter and jelly, it's a perfect match.
If you've never tried combining chocolate and matcha, try this variation and let us know what you think!
